Abreu Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

You have to be patient. Out of the gate everyone loved the Maybach which is just so delicious right out of the chute. Give it an hour (probably more) and this really starts to shine. Two hours into dinner this was amazing and just outshined the Maybach. To be clear I love both. Start with Maybach finish with this and just be incredibly happy. Happy anniversary. — 3 days ago

Thorevilos Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

What a treat to finally taste this Abreu wine thanks to a friend! Chocolate and dark fruit on the nose are joined on the palette by vanilla oak and structured tannins. Admittedly this 2016 is still in its infancy but it is delightful nonetheless. Cellar if you can check your urges to uncork!! — a month ago

Rothwell Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

As a first exposure to an Abreu vineyards wine we were all impressed! The tannins were structure, but the 30m decant left them young and tight although not at all unpleasant. Hints of blueberries complemented the rich dark fruit and some dark chocolate on the back palette. I will revisit this wine after several more years of cellar aging. — 2 months ago

Pandora Edna Valley Grenache Syrah 2013

I really can’t remember another time when an Alban Pandora was the third best wine of an evening...but then again, it was preceded by a 2017 Aubert Lauren chardonnay and a 2004 Abreu Thorevelos cabernet. Tough room. — 6 months ago

Madrona Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

1.5 hour decant (lots of chunky/fine sediment). An unbelievable deep dark ruby red with a little bricking. On the nose: jumping from the glass are sweet cherries, slight funky earth, mint, floral, slight menthol, vanilla leather. Taste: A smooth, rich, layered full body wine with dark cherries, chocolate, currants, spice, minerals, and a charcoal graphite long dry finish. Some tannins still present and will wait a couple years to open my remaining bottles...but, still rocking it this Saturday night!!! YUM. — 17 days ago

My wife to the left, David’s wife to the right. This is drum tight. 11 years in. Superb. Abreu pips this, but still excellent. — 2 months ago

Yes @David L, very important to note the vessel size. No rush to consume these. This presented like it had just been bottled. Thanks again for being such a stellar host 😘

Vieilles Vignes Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Solid 9.5. Did not match up to the Maybach/Abreu/SQN last night but still excellent. Much lighter on the palate even less than than an Aubert Pinot, great aromatics, classic Cab flavors but not the rich, dark, deep flavors of last night. — 2 days ago

What vintage?

Religious experience. First expensive (for me) wine that I've had. My wallet was disappointed to learn that there are wines worth the price. I feel I can write an essay about it, but I'll just say it is the first wine I've ever had where the smell and the taste were equally impressive. — 2 months ago

Cappella Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2007

Abreu....really needs + 10 years to shine. A 1.5 hour decant. A glorious deep murky dark burgundy color with just a little bricking. On the nose: Kaboom! Big nose of dark cherry/plum, funky stewed meat, cassis, sweet mocha, wet forest floor, and a slight menthol. Taste: Buckle up and hold on to the guard rails!!! A creamy, rich, layered full body wine with dark cherry, chocolate, cassis, minerals, and a long earthy cedar finish. In its drinking window, pop one if you got em. Cheers! — 4 months ago
