Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a beautiful one from Bordeaux.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, earth, wet leaves, herbs, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee, dark chocolates and tobacco leaf.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old, from the great 2015 vintage, is drinking very nice right now.

This Fifth growth Bordeaux is showing nice complexity, with a soft and elegant mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours in the decanter.

Young, but already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

Robert Parker 97 points.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good with food too. Will pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.

A Delicious wine that drank better than the 1996 I had 4 years ago.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels (50% new) for 16 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Austin Hope

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Austin Hope is excellent every time. This went perfectly with the filet mignon for my 57th birthday at our favorite spot, Hannah’s steakhouse in Rancho Santa Margarita. With good friends, the Noce’s. — 2 months ago

Orion Old Vines Rossi Vineyard Native Syrah 1998

#AgedWineTuesday

Really pretty teeth staining in color.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with cedar, licorice, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, must and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins.

This 24 year old Syrah is still delicious, but on its last leg. Smooth and elegant. Fruit forward and tasty.

This Single Vineyard is good right out of the bottle, and better with food.

I did not decant it, and it didn't last long. I had this vintage a year ago, and it lasted much longer.

I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

@"Odedi" I had this in 2014 and my note reflects my disappointment . However my experience not too long ago with the ‘97 was excellent .

Yakima Valley Vin Gris Pinot Gris 2020

Last bottle of the 2020 vintage, 130 cases made. Orange with a hint of pink, excellent clarity. Floral and stone fruit aromas, subtle. Lactic, citrus and subdued orchard fruit flavor. Some skin astringency on finish but less than you would expect after a 72 cold soak before fermentation in used wood. An orange wine with finesse, or at least a light touch. Refreshing — a year ago

Cava R 130 2016

100% old vine Xarel-lo with long maturation, ripe pear, and soft citrus notes, creamy, toasted nuts on the long finish. If you're looking for an interesting and complex Corpinnat worth the price, this is it. — 2 years ago

Staglin Family Vineyard

Rutherford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

A soaring Staglin that fully sorted with 30 mins of air. Beautiful nose full of red flowers and dark cherry, some cedar. Intense, haunting hints of resolving tannins and dark red fruit with a Bordeaux vibe. Really nice. Call out to Pappas Bros. Houston Steakhouse majestic list (and great advice!). — 4 years ago
