Yarra Yering
Dry Red Wine No°2 Shiraz Blend
In the Langtons Excellent category. A Shiraz blend from the Yarra Valley created originally by the enigmatic Dr Bailey Carrodus who has passed. Probably the first person in Australia to co-ferment Shiraz and Viognier. Always a delicious long living wine.

Jun 16th, 2015Value at the other end of the $ spectrum! 2002 @YarraYering No2 #FilthyGoodVino Loved this vintage. Making wine in 2002 was the definition of true love. Yields were close to 0.5 tonnes/acre. Intensity was insane, yet, the No2 retained the delicacy you'd expect from a YY. Personality & refinement. Seeing this wine evolve is a demonstration of excellence, showing how wines of real personality that have the fruit to back it tell even more intriguing stories as they age! Wine wisdom! An often missed detail of the YY labels is the leaves that adourn them. The are Bay Leaves, also known as Laurel, not vine leaves. A tribute to Laurel, the Doc's other true love. It was a great shame to visit the cellar door and see that the Laurel had been dug up. It was beautiful tree with a connection to the history of the winery and the founders.

This is truly excellent. Don't believe rumours of Brett in this vintage, this is a smart wine drinking now. Dark stewed fruits, mocha, oaky spice. Textural and great value.

Jan 7th, 2015This is very good stuff - has a lovely finesse about it, but also has a great fruit balance - I found it very French in style - like a top Cote Rotie
