Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee lunch...always such a treat to attend. This week, Dan hosted. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All blind as usual.

Tannat is getting on a hot streak in Napa...I’ve been fortunate to have a few from Y Rousseau and each has been fantastic. Brooding and inky...many Malbec guesses, but I couldn’t quite go there, nor could I go Petite Sirah. I was stumped. Gritty, blackberry pie, little bit of charcoal, tannic.

Phenomenal deep purple color. As someone said, this is as round and supple of a Tanat that can be found.

As soft, smooth and round of a Tannat wine as you'll find. Very pleasure with loads of dark fruits and medium tannin.

Almost 100% tannat w a few sprinkles of cab merlot and syrah. Tasted with the winemaker. Dark brooding fruit, with earthy notes of wet leaves and pine sap. Herbaceous and big tannic structure, inky and a little meaty on the palate. Needs a steak.

Delicious. Deep, dark - almost black. Kind of reminds me of a cross between an Aussie Shiraz and a good Sonoma Zin. Fruity, blackberries and some pepper/ spice. Nice soft wine, mellow tannins ( a surprise). Great with grilled skirt steak. And a nice sipper after.

Pinot-ish. Stronger tannins. Fine but better wines for $. 13C tasting.
