Winderlea Legacy Pinot Noir
Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA
Very interesting in that it was super smokey, but otherwise the QPR was ridiculously off.

Very nice, smooth on the light Pinot side. Dark red fruit but not too strong, low oak & tannins, low acidity.

2012 Legacy. Made solely from 45 year old own-rooted vines in Dundee by Robert Brittan, this needed an hour open to come around. When it did it had almost ethereal aromas of cherry pie and strawberry plus a hint of spearmint. Nothing like a Cali Pinot.

Initially opens up with herby notes, but settles into ripe cherries, peppercorn, eucalyptus and subtle tobacco notes. On the palate, starts off with red cherries, ripe cranberries, and notes of pomegranate and fresh orange rind, melding into meaty qualities and cocoa and finishing with a peppery spice. Lovely, but still a bit young and disjointed. Try again in a couple of years.
