Wilde Farm
Halcon Vineyard Syrah
Lots of character here. Obviously picked relatively early as evidenced by its 12.6%, the nose features lots of things other than ripe fruit. It’s got green peppercorn, ink, intense crushed rock minerality, a bit of spiced beef jerky. In the mouth it’s got nice balance, with an initial whack of minerally, pleasantly herbal flavors, crisp crunchy wild berry, and then good acids come in. Tannins are soft and unobtrusive. It’s really good “as is,” but I can’t help but wonder if a teeny bit more ripeness would take this to another level.

Oct 21st, 2021Nice color, medium weight, but a bit rustic and showing some rough edges. Decent black fruit with iron filings, tobacco, and saddle leather notes. Pretty short finish with drying tannins.
