Käferberg Reserve Grüner Veltliner
Not sure why the word 'rosé' has cropped up here. Clearly it wasn't a rosé. Deep lemon in colour, this opened with leesy, honeyed notes with lots of discarded fresh fruit peel - lemon and grapefruit, papaya, peach, pineapple and a kind of curdled cream in fruit syrup aspect. Left in the glass, those aromas became much more fresh and pleasant, with a distinct orange blossom and botrytis marmalade dimension. Full and rich in the mouth, with a lovely, softly smothering mouthfeel that left a smudgy tannin impression. All those tropical, stone and citrus fruits in fine, primary form, with just a hint of honey and botrytis to betray its age and origin. More mineral towards the back palate, with a strong squeeze of white grapefruit, the acidity cleansing and lively. Great complexity; a wine I'd have happily sat with for hours.

Aug 14th, 2014Our last bottle. Drinking beautifully now. A subtle sweetness to it, almost like a Riesling with some extra minerality to it. Great price point too, we got it at a bargain.

Apr 1st, 2021Fantastic Gruner. Very different than any Gruner I’ve ever had. Complex, nice sweetness. Fantastic with our carrot ginger soup for dinner.

Jun 24th, 2017Big petroleum nose. Seems sweet, even though dry. Light spritz quickly dissipated. Roses and nectarine
