Vipava 1894
Malvazija
Vipava Valley, Primorska, SloveniaVipava appears to be both the winery org name and valley where the grapes are grown. Assuming this is grown in two sub-regions; Vipavska Dolina (low?)and Vipavska Tal (high?). Estate bottled, hand picked.
Pale-medium yellow. Nose of lilac, Paperwhites, white peach nectar and other aromatic pit fruits. Good as an aperitif as it is bracingly dry. Lead into pasta with Marcel Hazan's tomato/onion/butter sauce.

New grape for us tonight. Really enjoyed this one. Stone fruits-almost tropical fruit overtones. A little minerality and herbaceous quality to it but not at all like a Sauvignon blanc. But it hints at that. Would buy this one again for sure.

Really nice dry white out of 100% Malvazija, a truly Mediterranean variety. Very aromatic, tropical fruits. Not so overly fruity, herbaceous and hint of fruit blossoms. Moderate mineral and nice juiciness on the back palate. Had it paired with grilled chunky and meaty fish.
