Got to taste two vintages of Suzy & Jim Gullett‘s Sangiovese. Consistent quality dried fruit aromas and spicy notes. Cherry and raspberry flavors with cacao, vivid acidity, the ‘14 is a bit racy. Fine tannins, good mouthfeel and texture, medium finish ending with oaky notes.

Suzy & Jim Gullett established Vino Noceto as "California's Sangiovese Specialist" beginning when Jim in his teens got the "wine bug" visiting Napa. He took several wine country tours and, in 1984 found his Shenandoah Valley 21-acre property making it his winery and home, in 1987 he purchase a neighboring 18.5 acre site. Aromas of dried fruits and sweet spicy notes. On the palate raspberry and cherry flavors with bits of cacao and light pepper spice. Fine tannins on medium finish ending with oak tones.

Suzy and Jim Gullett have established Vino Noceto as "CA's Sangiovese Specialist" which began when Jim, still in his teens, caught the "bug" while visiting Napa wineries with family and friends. I received this as a gift and it still tasted good. Berry fruit aromas, slight spice. Ripe cherry fruit flavors with a touch of oak and pepper spice. Medium finish, fine tannins, probably lost it's edge, ending with oak notes.

Reduced and took three days to clear up. When it did, there was Sangiovese brown sugar combined with that Amador red soil aroma and substantial tannin. Red fruits somehow lacking brightness and just tending toward sweet. This being a '12 and 14.1%/5.8 TA, I wonder if the crop was heavy, or it just should've been picked earlier?

Not my thing. I expect a Sangiovese to have a little more depth and body. This felt more like American Pinot.

Light tasty. We usually go with bolder reds, nice to change it up a bit
