Purchased at the winery in 2024. Damn this is deep. From the 1869 Grandpere Vineyard in Amador County. 1869. The Civil War was still fresh in people’s minds and the grass hadn’t even grown over Abe Lincoln’s body yet. Hard to comprehend in 2025.
Deep and pure black cherry fruit and minerality on the nose. silky and mouthfilling on entry, the mid-palate is large-framed and pulls in savory elements. Long finish. Such a special vineyard and such a special wine. Intensity of flavor without any jamminess or residual sugar or loss of balance.

I agree with Jim Gordon: this old vineyard Zinfandel drinks like a Port. Juicy plum, ripe raspberry and blueberry flavors. I like the pepper, spice and classic dusty overtones of Amador County. Loads of depth here.

Nicely balanced with nothing heavy about it. Fruit from one of the oldest vineyards in the foothills, handled quite well. Layers of fruit, spice and earth.

Fruit forward zin with nice restraint. Jammy but with some finesse. Pairs well with food. Looking forward to 2012 vintage which vineyard owners suspect will be even better.
