Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2016 Reserva pours a few ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, ripe and dried fruits: black cherry, toasted coconut, dried dill, tobacco, well oiled all glove, a whiff of varnish and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a delicious, somewhat modern leaning Rioja that’s true to place. Drink now through 2041.

Extraordinary depth and elegance. A great bottle of wine and the first Contino. A rare treat for any wine lover. Compares to great Gran Riserva Rioja from 59 and 52. Shows the faster maturation of the newer style but at my age I'm happy to get to this greatness as quickly as possible. Bravo!!

Fruitier than the Imperial Reserva with less oak influence. Medium bodied, but with excellent acidity and freshness. A slightly reduced nose but the palate shows well the cherry, plum, cranberry, cinnamon, and iron.

Wonderfully expressive, baked red fruit pie fruit notes, so plush, so luxurious. In the mouth this is beautifully rounded with resolved tannin, well balanced fruit with a long, fine tannic structure and tapered finish.
