Vinding Montecarrubo
Vignolo Terre Siciliane Syrah
Perfumed, really savory. A bit lighter and less ripe than the entry level Piccolo and Suzanne cuvees.

Nov 1st, 2021Terrific nose. Plus plus plus floral. Lavender. Red fruits. Smokey. Very expansive. Palate has terrific fruit. Incredibly juicy. Concentrated and complex. Wonderful freshness, minerality and just tremendous energy. Awesome purity and depth. Such tiny berry intensity and length. This is the best Vignolo by a mile. Very elegant. Great tannins. Refined. Almost a 9.4. Terrific length and clarity here. Inner mouth aromas off the chart.

Oct 31st, 2020Nose is wild and funky. Verset like immediately comes to mind. It’s wild and funky but also has class, deep Syrah character and refinement. Some VA, some funk, some elegance, leather, berry fruit, some brett, it is all there and coming out to play but somehow it works. Way better than the ghastly 12’s. Palate is juicy and rustic, with nice juiciness and purity. Definitely get a Sicilian vibe from this. Tinny but in a good way. Wild, rustic and pure. Juicy with good fruit and lovely tannins. Rustic, charming and juicy. Long. No finesse but it makes up for it in charm. Very good.
BIG improvement on day 2. Gorgeous aroma. Meaty, floral and gamey. Palate is silky and sweet. 8.9 to 9.1. Juicy and terrific florals. Sappy.

100% Syrah which is what this winery specializes in. Our first Sicilian estate and of course it’s Syrah. Lol. Wild, awesome and super Syrah nose. Violets, lavender, olives, ripe blackberries and even a hint of cassis. Lovely rocky minerality. Some nuttiness as well. Very complex and nose that suggests this has entered maturity. Palate is juicy and elegant. Suave and silky. Loads of berry fruit and a hint of nuttiness. Is this from low sulfur? Delicious and fresh. Not overly complex. As it airs the nose opens more to reveal tree bark, fresh meadow, kalamata olive and more palate becomes more refined and silky as well but the nuttiness takes a way a bit. Like this is 90% stable but 10% freaky. It’s an earlier vintage here since I started with the 18’s so this is more a curiosity that anything. It’s very good but there is a bit of a flaw here. It doesn’t take away much but it doesn’t add anything positive. 9.1 maybe 9.0. Finishes also a bit dirty.
Update - this got much shittier with air. 9.1 to 8.5.

Bold notes of blue flowers, violet, blackberries, plums, piñon, velvet and tobacco. Beautifully tannic, with a spine of lingering spice, rich and acid driven, with notes of dried wood, blood orange, blueberry cobbler, and a surprisingly dry finish with notes of clove and wet earth. Perfect pairing for light to medium spice Mexican food and probably my favorite Syrah. A personal game changer.
