Vieux Château Saint André
Montagne-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
I love this wine. One of the first smaller Bordeaux I ever had. Nose is cocoa, plum, smoke and some faint cassis. Such a nice dusty earthiness. Really juicy, pure and engaging. Lovely complexity, freshness and a big structure. Bittersweet cocoa on the finish. Needs time and tannins a little drying. I’ll be back. Terrific length here. 9.2 to 9.3. The tannins are slowly now moving into fruit and the process is happening. This is a fantastic wine.

Sep 13th, 2022I would say this is hitting its peak. Soft, pretty, light fine grain tannin. Cherry, plum, raspberry.

Aug 29th, 2022Lovely wine. Spice, raspberry cake, loads is minerality and earth. So classic. Lovely deep plum. Very forward aromas. Chocolate. Dark chocolate. Super juicy and pure with tremendous freshness and lovely early season red fruits. Supple and energetic but also with some structure to burn on the finish. Good concentration and depth. Very well made.

Oct 10th, 2021I also have a weak spot for Pomerol’s and right banks from St. Emilion. This find delivers on that Merlot inspired approach. Subtle. Expressive.

Apr 26th, 2021Love this wine made by JC Berrouet of Petrus fame. Raspberry, bittersweet cocoa, earthy, cassis, superb minerality. Lovely, refined nose with a hint of rusticity. Palate is so ultra refined with plum and raspberry fruit. Ripe, precise taninns and great purity. Very very clean. Super juicy and structured like a classical Bordeaux. Good now better in 5 years.

Oct 5th, 2019Pop and pour. Well, wow, I should have bought more of this. On the nose: dense plum, strawberry, cinnamon, intense without being over the top. On the palate: tar, blackberry, charcoal, dense and dark fruited...so well-balanced, fantastic length and juiciness and the finely grained tannin sneaks up on the finish.

Mar 24th, 2016Jean Claude Berrouet knows his way with Merlot. This is really exceptional. Cocoa and mineral on the elegant and expressive nose. Lovely old school Bordeaux on the palate with earth, semi sweet cocoa, plum/cherry and terrific acids that keep this amazingly fresh and lively. Also an amazing structure which ensures 5-10 years ahead of it. They do not make them like this much anymore.
