Napa Valley Syrah

A little tight. It needed some time to open up. Could also be the high alcohol level 14.8%. For a Syrah, it had a lot more complexity and feel of a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot.

2002 vintage. Dark fruit, smoke

Deep ruby core with garnet edges. Layered nose with leather, olives, black fruits and sweet spices. Medium plus tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Lovely palate with rich dark black berries, pepper, light black olives and sweet spices. Lovely and still packs a punch. Long finish. Drink till 2021.

Cured bacon, soft juicy fruit, and lovely acidity

2005 Viader Syrah - Finally opened this and glad that I have another! Full bodied with firm concentration. Peppery black cherry and bramble, tobacco ashes, vanilla. Amazing depth and complexity. Decant for 1 hour at least. This one still has a ways to go. I'll revisit it again in three years.

1998 vintage. Just a lovely wine with old world notes but with definite California fruit.
