Dark ruby garnet. Initially shy nose of black cherry drops. Medium-bodied palate echoes the nose with a hint of stony licorice marzipan mid-palate to finish. Medium acidity. Sneaky medium tannins that assert on the finish. A nice intro to the “Duke” of Tuscan Sangiovese-based wines. Not quite as structured as higher-priced offerings, but that’s good for the novice. Drink now through 2024.

Full bodied, balanced, and with proper typicity. The fruit is black and inky compared to the rusty 2004 reserva, but never jammy, all infused with fennel and herbs and salubrious grip on the finish.

Very flavorful, good as a cocktail and with food. Needs 30 min plus to bring out the best of this wine.

Aromas of tart fruit and spicy tobacco notes. On the palate simple flavors of raspberry and cherry with tar and pepper spice. Grippy tannins, medium finish ending with pungent spice. Ok for price but better out there.

You were black cherry and sour cherry and black berry with cedar and leather. You were earthy and moderate acidity and alcohol with a medium finish. You were funky and tight at first and needed about 40 minutes to decant and unwind. When you did, you were $18 well spent. Vecchia Cantina Vino Nobile di Montepilciano #SommStudy

Beautiful color of dark ruby with a wide purplish rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, licorice, plums, earth, spices, peppercorn, cola, smoke, chocolates, alcohol, spices, herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, pomegranates, earth, leather, pencil lead, vinaigrette, green vegetables, bitter herbs, animal notes and black pepper.

Medium finish with round tannins and spices.

This Italian red is drinking very nicely now. An above average red with a nice mouthfeel. A little tart and bitter on the ending, though.

A good food wine, enjoyable with foods like BBQ Meats.
Needs an hour to open up properly.

Wine Spectator 92 points. (I don't know about that...)

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Dried cranberry and cherry with pomegranate on the nose. Tart versions of them on the palate. Some balsamic and strawberries up in the mix. Very present tannins, seemingly med+ acid.

The 2003 vintage. Shows how confusing Italian wine can be. This is from Toscana and made from the Sangiovese grape as distinct from Montepulicano d'Abruzzo which is made from the Montepulciano grape!! This was typically Tuscan with earthy savoury nose and flavours. Uniquely Italian and with 12 years of age.
