Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy
Poured through a bottle-top aerator. Shy but inviting nose of dusty black cherry and pomegranate. Austere and full palate of blackberry, black cherry, and tarry black fruit with a stern dose of woodiness. Firm but not unforgiving tannins; juicy medium plus acidity. Long, dark, tarry blackberry finish. Very young and though a vigorous decanting will render it approachable for most, better to hold on to it until at least 2026 (and approach with caution even then). 2016 is an excellent vintage throughout the region and the '16 Rossos are showing wonderfully right now. Drink those until this is ready.

Another weekly wine Committee lunch that I was able to attend, hosted by @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt . Excellent job, fellas! All wines tasted blind as usual.
I can probably count on one hand how many Sangiovese type wines I've had, so this was nice to try. This seems to be hitting a peak drinking window that will be open for a while. Lots of leather and charred black cherries.

Lovely Brunello but so young and close that it is a crime to drink today :-) this 2009 Brunello will be amazing in 2020, now it is just too tight to be fully enjoyed, a deep garnet color, a lovely complex aroma of black current, cassis, wiled cherries, plums, espresso and spices, full body, rich with tight dry tannins and a spectacular acidity to support long aging, a long long delicious sexy finish. A true pleasure, my score 90, drink 2018-2027

Absolutely wonderful. Not as intense as the 08', much more elegant and old world in flare. It wasn't about the oak, and more about the Sangeovese. The color had gone to garnet and the aromas were earthy and barnyard like, with licorice, violet and cedar notes. The pallet was firm and alive, exhibiting notes of tobacco and leather, dark cherry notes, clove, blackberries, and a gripping, smooth finish. I can't wait to dive into their 2010's whenever they are available!
