Ulysse Collin
Les Maillons Rosé de Saignee Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Noir
Love this vintage for what’s normally a rich, dense and powerful style that almost takes you to Burgundy. The 2017 rendition after 36 months on the lees is particularly elegant, satiny and detailed, layered with blood orange, red flowers and spice inflicted aromatics with a chalky mineral core. The full bodied and textural palate offers tremendous fruit density, balance and purity with a lingering finale. Love the whole lineup from Ulysse Collin.

Dec 25th, 2020A special gift from @Shawn R and his lovely wife; Jeniffer.
The visual presentation is superb. Nose is so different from typical champers. No perceptible oak, yeast or bread - wonderful departure. Palate is consistent. Extra brut, but the dosage is deceptively sweet. Smallest bubbles we’ve ever experienced, combine with rose petals and strawberries. Finishes with vigor, but also very regal. Stunning. A new style of champers for us.

Got to pop some special bottles when my good friend Shawn came in to town!
Without a doubt, this is one of the most unique and complex rosé champagnes I’ve ever had. It’s more still wine like than it is champagne. I opened their Blanc de noir last month and while it was good, this has got so much more going on. Sporting that classic saignee deep watermelon color in the glass, you expect to be greeted by lots of ripe and juicy fruits, but instead, there is a lot of barrel char, giving the fruit (loads of black cherries) a smoky note. Super lively on the palate with racy acidity. Charred black cherries, peppercorn crusted rhubarb, ripe strawberries and semi herbal too. A Rosé champagne that keeps you thinking the entire time. Great bottle from @Shawn R .

dark strawberry color; wild red berries, rose petals, whiff of autolytic character; strawberry, cranberry; great cut, extra brut, 12.5% ABV, disgorged March 2018, Louis Dressner selection

2 people found it helpfulDec 17th, 2015Explosive bubbles that quickly dissipate.
Very lifted red fruit and florals that make it hard to take your nose out of the glass. The palate is like an Olympic high jumper with ripe red fruit, cranberries and minerals speeding down the length of your tongue then lift off into a ball of vinous goodness. Young and acidic. My only nit-pick is the finish , could have been longer but that could be the result of the tightly wound structure .
