Johnson Turnbull Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Great old-school Martha’s Vineyard nose but not fully delivering that to the palate. Good wine though.

Eucalyptus bomb. Like Heitz Martha’s Vineyard, early Turnbull wines were known for the character imparted by neighboring eucalyptus groves. I’ve never come across a wine where it was as apparent as with this one. Perhaps with age the eucalyptus sticks around as the fruit fades. Enjoyable experience all the same.

Lovely eucalyptus and mint aromas on a solid base of wonderful dark fruit and complex aromatics. Lovely nose and finish.

Out of Magnum. Still surprising fruit value for this age but lacking any depth.

Tastes like dill and bay and old wine.

Inspired by friends sharing a 1984 Vichon I just had to check this.
In a blind tasting I could have guessed Heitz Martha's (or BV GdL) from a lesser vintage.
A nice wine and your miles may vary but as with lots of other Napa 1984's I just don't find much charm.

Beautiful balance and richly spiced fruit with a great nose and full palate and moderately long finish. Subtle mint and eucalyptus as trademarks of this beautifully made wine. A great food wine.

A little past prime, some bricking and currant notes. Still very good, drink up.
