Happy Easter!

This has done a lot of evolving since I had this 2-3 years ago. Pop and pour. Still just a crazy, dark black-purple in the glass, with juicy and ripe blueberries and fresh squeezed blackberries on the nose. Boysenberry, chocolate graham cracker and mixed berry pie crust too. Dense and almost a fruit bomb, but there is enough graphite and savory notes on the mid palate to prevent it from being overblown. Toes the line of being a little hot. At this stage, this is a ripe/juicy/candied Cabernet that has smooth tannins.

Solid Napa cab at a reasonable price. The rich, bold bouquet seems more youthful than the wine's age (8), and the vibrant black currant and licorice on the palate are backed by moderate tannins. Lots of sediment on this one.

Fantastic nose of blackberry cobbler, black cassis, and the smallest hint of eucalyptus to make things interesting. The acidity is a welcomed touch to the palate. The oak is integrated and accompanies the fresh fruit perfectly; and a smooth, vanilla note rounds off the wine's finish. Again...fantastic.

Discovered this vintage in '04. Bought a case. turned out to be WS #8 wine of the year. Price went through the roof. One of my best purchases ever. Drinking lovely after all these years🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

This wine with age always amazes. The best value at $35 from costco, under wholesale cost in this market. Tastes like $60 and never disappoints with great fruit, integrated tannins, smooth finish and with lamb lolly pops a great Wednesday night. A nice treat while spending the day packing wine, I never want to move again. Only case left, glad I went deep on 2010.

Sipping Fine Wine

In the Spring of 1993, publisher, Patrick O'Dell, purchased Johnson Turnbull Vineyards and renamed the property Turnbull Wine Cellars. Dark red with aromas of fresh crushed berry fruit with earthy tones. On the palate cherry and blackberry flavors with pepper spice, tobacco and cacao on fine dusty tannins. Lingering finish ending with a mineral character.

Time to check in on this 07. There's more evolution than one might expect for this 07. Although, I am one of those people that believed the 07 vintage will age but not as long as most believe. Ripe, ruby blue fruits leap onto the palate followed by blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, dark chocolate powder, still a fair amount of vanilla, cinnamon, dry black earth, perfumed violets, dry roses, black cherry licorice, crushed dry volcanic rocks, underbrush, black tea, touch of lead pencil, dry tobacco leaf & touch herbaceous. The tannins nicely resolved to fine dust. Good acidity. Still some good tension, nice length and definitely a good balance of minerals & fruit. The finish runs juicy fruits to dusty dry tannins. Will improve for another 5-7years and hold good drinking status another 5 years. Great value wine. I'm not positive but think I paid around $25 for it.

Starter wine - tonight will be a tune up for tomorrow and my little friends and family holiday event for neighborhood - good old faithful Napa cab tonight - easy going but young - I mean crying young - but it will the grow up one day - maybe not to the black labels but rest baby and sorry I am drinking one of your young bottle buddies - I will tell you this 14s and 13s Napa cabs are going to better than 10s and 12s after a little sleep - so starter wine tonight is having a smiling effect on me - it is that Friday night in December in the Carolinas effect I bet but who cares - drink up people
