Nov 6th, 2023Just a fantastic wine. Forget the hype. Dark and rich. The 2018 is perfect with 2 hours of air and decanting.

Apr 7th, 2021Another Torbreck brought to the Toowoomba Wine Show Judges Dinner at the Downs Club by winemaker Greg McGill. Earthy perfume - a solid full bodied palate 15% ABV. Given 100 points by Joe Czerwinski of Wine Advocate. Never seen the value in Run Rig for the plus $200 price tag. A certain mystique here and one of the Barossa icons but don’t get the hype to be honest.

Sep 28th, 2019Thick wine with Sweet cherry, mocca blackberry cinnamon. Rhubarb Nice tang compensation. Extreme nice, but perhaps a bit expensive.

Jan 25th, 2019I was fortunate enough to attend the grand tasting at TexSom this year. Talk about a Who’s Who of the wine world! Incredible environment with beautiful wines.
My first time tasting RunRig...I get what the hype is about. Plush. Dark chocolate dusted dates, bay leaf, peppercorn, licorice and a velvet mouthfeel. Wonderful.

Mmm, talk about sex appeal. These guys know how to make downright sexy Shiraz with density, power, and complexity without being cloying - even at 15.5%, it’s well hidden. The nose is wonderful, with nuances of ash and smoke, mocha and wild berries. The palate is unctuous, deep and delicious with supple black and blue fruits, but balancing acid. An iron-laden finish with red berries on the finish. Really good stuff.. still too young to properly evaluate as this has the stuffing to go for decades imo.

Apr 20th, 2018Now, THIS is a Shiraz! (Get it? A little Dundee for ya)
Outstanding wine from an incredible vintner in Barossa - truly dedicated to only producing the best of what their vineyards can offer, or nothing at all. Their wines pay true homage to Rhône, with every bit of the sparky personality of Australia. This is a co-fermented Shiraz/Viognier blend, that pours tar like into the glass. The aromatics jettison out of the bowl - black tea, smoked blackberry jam, jasmine, applewood smoked beef belly, luxardo cherry juice, duck fat, lavender, and sandalwood on an incredibly complex nose. The pallet is dense, chewy and silky at the same time, with tight knit structure - exhibiting notes of sweet cherries, smokey flint, vanilla, black plum, fresh rosemary, and a finish that lingers for minutes. Truly an expression of Syrah, but to give it respect for the name Australia has given it.. one of the best Shiraz I've had. Thanks to Matt, the VP of wine sales from Torbreck for this super last minute event!

Inky ruby color. Expansive aromas of dark fruit liqueur, incense, candied flowers, Indian spices and vanilla. Has a smoky mineral quality that gains strength as the wine opens up. Fleshy, sweet and broad on the palate, offering impressively concentrated yet lively blackcurrant, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors that are lifted and sharpened by a smoky mineral flourish. Smooth, seamless and appealingly sweet on an extremely long, floral-dominated finish that's framed by suave, well-knit tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2021)
