Tikal
Patriota Mendoza Malbec Bonarda
This Argentinian Malbec Blend is always enjoyable. This 2014 was not the best vintage, but it is drinking very nicely now.
Showing black fruits with earth, oak, vegetables, barnyard, beef jerky, spices, tobacco leaf and black pepper.
Soft mouthfeel with medium acidity and mild complexity.
13.8% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

Jan 15th, 2018Tikal is owned by Ernesto Catena and is named after his son. Ernesto spent his childhood in the vineyards of Mendoza among local wine-growers. Deep red with purple edges and aged in oak for about 10 months. Aromas of berry fruit and spicy notes. On the palate raspberry and plum flavors with oak, cacao and cinnamon spice. Vivid acidity, dusty fine tannins ending with slight earthy edge. Nice value!

1 person found it helpfulOct 25th, 2018A father's day gift. We had it with barbequed beef and chicken. Very smooth and a nice blend of Malbec and Bonarda grapes.

Apr 15th, 2018Deep, dark violet with cherry red hues. Huge fruit on the nose with cranberry, ripe cherries, and blackberries showing dominance. While a big wine, this manages a very silky mouthfeel with a touch of refinement, as well. Vanilla, smoked wood chips, strawberry, and heaps of dark fruit deliciousness. The Bonarda adds an herbal element to the blend that you don’t necessarily see coming. Those herbs take you to the long finish. A spectacularly fun wine.

Feb 2nd, 2017Tikal’s 2014 Patriota Malbec-Bonarda offers vibrant blackberry, cassis and violet aromas complemented by smoky, spicy oak. Its berry and spice flavors are plush, sweet and open-knit but not a bit heavy, while the finish is suavely tannic and persistent. (ST)
