Quite ripe but plenty of zip too. I find their Cabernet Sauvignon more impressive but i did like this.

@Delectable Wine : This is Theorem’s Moon Mountain District chardonnay. I didn’t see it in the database.

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

Theorem was one of our highlights last year, so we made sure a return visit was lined up this year. Base of Diamond Mtn with one of the most beautiful properties I’ve seen. Over the last 12 months, they’ve added a couple new wines (with more to come from Moon Mountain). TRB is the winemaker.

Another new wine to the lineup is the moon Mountain Chardonnay. When comparing to other chardonnays TRB crafts, this site is pulling in more slate/limestone and high acidity, compared to his Sonoma chardonnays that have a lot of oyster shell and tart stone fruits. Very bright and concentrated. Underripe melon, powdered lemon bar, crushed rocks, honeysuckle and wildflowers all reveal themselves. I’d hold this for a few years.

Fairly similar to the Hourglass SB in that its profile is rich yet tight and zippy. Heavy amounts of lemon tart, limestone, slate, sea salt and fresh cut grass. Lots of acidity here, but there is a component about it that adds a roundness right before the finish which keeps it from being totally sharp.

This is the first wine that I was there for from grape to glass. Limes on rocks. Stone on lemon. Perfectly ripe melon and lush pear round the corners ever so slightly while still finishing crisp. I need a pool. Theorem Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Moon Mountain District 2018.
Coming soon.

Moon Mountain fruit is just so special isn’t it? A rather attractive wheat yellow with tiny little green flecks. The nose is so inviting despite being an infant. A bit of lemon and a touch of lime with most delicate flowers initially. Tropical and citrus fruits abound here. Peaches and nectarines with a dash of pineapple for good measure. Let the wine warm a bit and a bit of honeysuckle comes to the fore. This really does smell terrific.

This isn’t a frivolous, afterthoughts Sauvignon Blanc. It has real weight and substance with nice complexity. Pleasing acidity and a mix of laid back on the tongue yet still possessing that burst of excitement that keeps you coming back for more. The attack is vigorous with those yellow fruits maintaining dominance. Wet stone and fresh herbs run amok in the best way possible. An impeccably clean finish. A gorgeous wine.
