The Hess Collection
Napa Valley Chardonnay
Founded by Donald Hess, purchasing vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978 and began making wine in 1983. Light golden with Fresh ripe stone fruit aromas and sweet notes. On the palate peach and ripe apple flavors with toasty notes. Medium length, good acidity, ending with a mineral oak tang. Ok, but the wine is lacking a cohesive balance.

Jun 20th, 2018Nice, mid-grade Napa Valley Chardonnay with interesting fruitiness (apple, pear, fig) and creaminess but enough acid to cut through a Gorgonzola cream sauce. Finish is not quite as pleasant, ending in an unexpected bitter note. Striving for balance but doesn’t quite get there. Not bad for the price. It’s our house white these days, because I got a case at a charity auction. Enjoyed the 2016 vintage with fusilli and the aforementioned Gorgonzola cream sauce.

May 25th, 2019Aroma is floral honeysuckle up front, Pear, peach, white cherries, vanilla, oak and heat at the end. Taste follows with medium acidity, warm spices at the end. Round, med-full body. A little hot and oaky for my taste but not terrible. I would recommend to someone looking for a chard.
