I was absolutely blown away by this wine on my birthday 25 May 2021. There are many excellent descriptions of this wine here on Delectable, but the fruit is still there and marvelous. I wish I had much more. It is much better than when it was released.

Quite enjoyable. One dimensional but sappy, concentrated fun without being over ripe.

Impenetrably dark purple. Initial high octane heat on the nose because everything about this just screams Huge Napa Cab. After around an hour of decanting, things calm down the bouquet blossoms with cedar, blueberry, blackberry, and mushrooms. Slight touches of lavender and vanilla are showing, as well.

Is this another huge California Cab? Of course it is, how could it not be? But there is most definitely a nice complexity and smoothness here. It’s not just another in the pack, that gorgeous mountain fruit shines through. It’s really hard to go wrong with those Spring Mountain resources and that takes this wine to the next level.

Oak and more tobacco are initial on the palate but never in an encroaching or overpowering manner. Dried cherries and fresh herbs then take over. Long finish with minimal spice and massive tannins. You can definitely do a lot worse than this.

Consumed 02/2020. This was about $40. And surprisingly I had one at a restaurant the day before that was a cheaper version of it and I preferred the cheaper one.

2002 - still holding up well, up front fruit is starting to diminish, but it is velvety smooth and compliments prime rib wonderfully.
