The 1961 Lessona from Tenuta Sella is alive and kicking! Plenty of acidity and red fruit, it pops with a surprising freshness for a wine of such age. A rather excellent companion while catching up with a friend from (high) school.
$199 on the Maialino wine list in NYC, which is packed with such gems.

Dark, rich, tar-y aromatics with good texture and tannin. Energetic almost to the point of being tart. I am thinking this bottle needs hours to fully relax.

Gorgeously soft and fragrant lighter styled Alpine Nebbiolo. Nose has just ripe cherry, Alpine flowers and herbs, and a beautiful high-toned spice element. The palate is super-soft, with loads of gravelly minerality, very transparent cherry fruit, and is soft but lean. Nice acidity and just a teeny bit of peppery heat at the end (which actually worked well with the rich Friulian pasta we had with it.

On point the more delicate side of Nebbiolo, the end of Cristiano's reign here...he is the man can't wait to see what he does next!

Lean and taut. While I enjoy the leaner side of Nebbiolo, the structure is unbalanced to the fruit etc right now.
