The 2016 Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga packs a serious punch. The rich style of this site married to the classicism of the year results in a Barbaresco that is going to need a bit of time to come around. Gaiun is often plush and voluptuous. In 2016, large-scaled tannins wrap around all of that fruit intensity, adding a very appealing dimension of structure. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon, mint, cedar, rose petal and blood orange build into the complex, layered finish. I have seen the Gaiun age effortlessly in its top vintages. I have no doubt that it will be the case here as well. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2020)

Chef’s Table. Very developed. By itself a bit tired but sang with the braised veal cheeks with Mexican leanings.

Fresh leather, cranberry sauce, black tea, rosemary. Drinking pretty well but not for too much longer.

Pure lucidity: licorice, caramel, rose; woody, chewy tannins.

A super beautiful, mature Barbaresco with tons of orange zest and exotic spice notes. In great shape. Have always loved this vintage for Piedmont.

Perfect nose of dried flowers, fruit and light leather. Great mouthfeel across the entire palate with sweet fruits, herbs, dried flowers and hints of earth. Lingering finish.

As I pulled it out of the cellar I felt bad about drinking it so young. But this wine is awesome. Maybe it gets better but it’s great right now. Nothing out of balance, no tannin, no wood, no acid. 14%, don’t feel it at all. This is a worlds great wine. Drank it with a Waygu strip the first night and Italian sausage and salami with red sauce on the second day. Went with both. Great wine.

2006 vintage, wound up and dense, with the most gorgeous pure nose of pristine, textbook Nebbiolo prettiness.

A bit oaky for my taste at first... But after 15 minutes that blew off and it was pretty nice.
