Aug 29th, 2023Last bottle, and damn it's drinking fine! No new notes today, but I must identify that the waxy notes and acidity are transcendent...This bottle still has years. 🥲

Nose has dried grapefruit rind, honeydew melon, dry sage, fresh rosemary and beeswax.
Palate has ripe honeydew melon, dried lemon, lemon juice, acidic pear, orange rind with plenty of dry minerals and acidity for days. Wonderful.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading GERSHWIN (Piano Concerto in F), GERSHWIN (Variations on “I Got Rhythm,” for piano and orchestra) and STRAVINSKY (Petrushka) with the amazing Jean-Yves Thibaude as the piano soloist on the two first works presented today. Jean-Yves is by far among our favorite pianists to grace the Koussevitzky Shed stage, so graceful, yet poignant!
Hot days call for cool wines, today there are some fun ones planned for sharing.

May 20th, 2015Etna Bianco comparative wine study. Single vineyard: Milo. 3300ft ASL. Aged in large neutral french oak. 2010 was an amazing vintage for most of Italy, and Federico Curtaz gets Etna fruit. (A Winebow import, I should claim.)

Nov 14th, 2014E Puddara Etna Bianco 2011. What a great wine. Showing like an apricot juice that was infused with lemon juice tonight. Heavier palate weight than I recall but lifted with bright chalky aromatics. Carricante the way it was meant to be, I surmise. Not thin and hot like others I've sampled, even if at 14% this it pulls it off effortlessly like a teen beauty queen

Carricante the way it was meant to be, I surmise. Not thin and hot like others I've sampled, even if at 14% this it pulls it off effortlessly like a teen beauty queen

Wide entry on the palate, creamy, heavy viscous midpalate weight, but the acid and the crazy powdered chalky minerality on the nose make it such a lively wine it never comes close to burdensome or overly tactile on the palate. It's a bit like a lean Falanghina or a taut off dry Chenin but with even more pointed, assertive, distinguished chalky minerality on the nose. Pear skin, slightly honeyed entry to the lovely puckering lemon-y acid finale. Such an elegant wine! So addictive! So fresh! (Imagining a Doge Cellartracker ID...)
