Intense savoury cherry. See previous Delectable note. Vacqueyras - 2nd only to Gigondas for Côtes du Rhône villages. This wine was 70% Grenache (over 60 years old), 15% Syrah (40 years old) and 15% Mourvèdre (40 years old). Tends to be slightly more rustic than Gigondas although this was very satisfying and good QPR. Alcohol a bit high at 14.5%.

A dark inky crimson in appearance. Nose a little muted initially - needed vigorous swirling even after decanting. On the palate rich black fruits from a ripe vintage - a touch of liquorice. Tasted blind my wife thought it was Australian. A full bodied Grenache based Red 70% (vines over 60 years old) 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. Finishing with slightly tarry granular tannins. An excellent dry red in a rustic style. 14.5% ABV. Leave the last one for a few years.

A certain animal (blood) hint, dark berries, dark chocolate, weight and length. Nice!

Slightly brickish rim, upon opening notes of earth and forest. After about 40 minutes, it unfurled slightly to more generous aromatics of Ranier cherry, Herbs de Garrigue, moist earth. Medium bodied with fine tannins and plenty of sediment in the bottle. This Vacqueras paired remarkably well with spiced lamb burgers. I used oregano and Italian parsley in place of mint, along with garlic, shallots, cumin and a touch of cinnamon.

Earthy and gravely with good power. Too young right now.

Not spectacular but solidly good Vacqueyras. Distinct licorice note.

Red fruit and spice, lush, full-bodied and warming. 14.5% abv. Quite a change from light, crisp pinks. Good acid. Concentrated. Balanced. I could deal with this on a regular basis.
