Deep Ruby with aromas of fresh, ripe dark fruit and notes of sweet cacao and spice, blend of Touriga Nacional 60%, Touriga Franca 30% and Sousão 10%, and at 113 grams per liter of residual sugar. On the palate pronounced flavors of blackberry, ripe plum and currants with notes of cacao and espresso. Well balanced, fine tannins, still tight, long finish ending with ripe juicy fruit, spice and earthy character. Very Nice! I would wait another 5 years!

Wednesday Wine Committee hosted by Dan. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. Tasted blind as usual.

Not as sweet as Graham’s. New producer to me. I guessed early-mid ‘90s port. More overripe fruit (blueberry, blackberry jam, cherry liqueur), and less graham cracker/cocoa notes than others. Seemed both young and old. Still ascending.

Reductive on the nose. Garnet rim, little staining yet of elevated concentration. Moderate plus viscosity. Basil, thyme, wild herbs, ginger, iron, and syrupy caramel undertone. Moderate acidity with a long sweet and savory finish. Not bad at all for 2001.

Deeply staining legs indicative of high viscosity of a young Port. Opaque dark purple. Honey, resin, and almond on the nose. On the palate creme de cassis and raspberry juice. Vibrant young port good for another decade or so.

Still very primary. Fruit forward and a bit more syrupy than I expect from Vesuvio. Perhaps better in 20 years.

Dominated by its tertiary development, but still loaded with baking spice and dried fruit. A nimble palate with fresh acidity, resolving tannins, and an eternal, evolving finish.

Not surprisingly open, though that is mostly due to mother nature making 2006 a somewhat difficult vintage and small crop and thus the wine wears the elegance and refinement very well on a style that is already beautifully elegant. Red raspberry, cherry, and sweet licorice aromas and flavors complement a very open and easy drinking fresh Port.

Plenty of gusto and power this one needs maybe another 5 years as it is still a dense wall of texture with a thick viscosity and very firm and ripe tannins. Loads of brambley fruit from start to finish where fairly straightforward. I would expect these aromas and flavors to get more complex and defined as the wine matures further and the layers of density start to peel off. This should cruises to a higher score as time softens this beauty.

This is my first Port. I like it. Hints of prune and caramel. Also tasting some chocolate. Not overwhelmingly sweet, which is nice.
