The best merlot coming out of Napa? Hard to say, but definitely in the top three for me (Paloma, Hourglass and this). So much fruit wrapped in a silky package (@Bill Bender don’t go there). Hedonistic, but still so balanced. And an ‘11 to boot. This followed two exceptional wines and held its own.

This is a 2011?! Wow, Switchback Ridge certainly didn't have a problem with their fruit in '11. I often shy from this vintage, but this is a wine worth seeking out.

Drinking beautifully right now. Absolutely singing with Allen Brothers filet mignon. While 2011 was not a great vintage, some outstanding winemakers with deft hands made less extracted, well balanced wines that are in a more European style.

Napa merlot at its best. Notes of blackberry, smoked meat and a hint of eucalyptus rise from the glass. Dark and brooding in the glass. Earthy tones, dark chocolate, hoisin and black tea on the palate. Great wine in a tougher year shows the skill of the winemaker and quality of the vineyard. 11s aren’t blockbusters but great winemakers made balanced wines.

Ready now. More jammy. Nice spice. I'm loving it.

Still going strong. Showing some fading but after an hour it really developed into an easy drinking wine.
