Super confectionery aromatics. Loads of citrus and it leans towards grapefruit. Juicy and sleek. Loads of juicy grapefruit. Lovely texture and energy. Great acid and also fleshy grapefruit that is pink and red. So pure and so Pfalz. Not quite ripe enough to see the classic pfalz nectarine/peach. Which i’m ok with.

Been almost 3 years since I’ve had this last. Outstanding nose. Clear, mineral, peach, apricot, so lithe, complex and mineral. Holding back even a bit as it’s narrowly focused but waiting to expand. Powdery minerals and crushed rocks start to develop. Palate is sappy and clean. Very pure and clean. Citrus. Tangelo, ripe mandarin orange sprinkled with spice and minerals. Juicy and very long. Very textured and ripe but man that energy and acid. What freshness. Pulls of the rich/tense combo like only the Pfalz can and the finishes with intense spice and then a hit of opulence that just sits there on your back of palate. Really great and has a decade of life minimum ahead.

My first taste of the 2016 since August 2017. Insane nose. Citrus, peach and mineral. Very mineral and precise. Nice sense of depth. Amazing density and depth with super youthful citrus and stone fruits and startling freshness. So complex and young. There is a level of crystalline purity that is phenomenal. Needs 3-5 years.

Riesling, why can you be so temperamental some days? We opened this +48h ago, closed for business then, so patience required. Riesling's will generally come around with some necessary restraint.

Nose has confectionery sugar over peach compote, lemon pith, bag full of fresh apricots, saline rain over spring flowers.

Palate has lemon/lime candy, lemon rind, granite dust, under-ripe/tart peach and a saccharin-like sweet/drying finish.

Future bottles may be approached in 2026-2028 for next development check-in.

This will likely see 3+ days of open time on this particular bottle, notes may be updated.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor Moritz Gnann is leading WAGNER (Siegfried Idyll), MOZART (Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat) with the outstanding Paul Lewis on piano and SCHUMANN (Symphony No. 3, Rhenish).

Peach juice, Lemon zest, wow Lemon oil like I've never tasted before, white flowers crushed in a limestone mortar with a granite pestle, aromas of late Spring rain on new flowers growing in the midst of a granite scree slope whilst someone had been running around squeezing Lemons beforehand, crazy. Looking forward to seeing how this develops in the coming days, too interesting to finish tonight.

24hr Update: Very tropical fruit-ish on the nose, still with lemon, lemon, lemon. The lemon oil notes have backed down on the palate. My wife thinks it's limes, it's definitely lemons, she's crazy.

48hr Update: Acidity and lemon oil characteristics are beginning to subside, probably 30% less than day one, just a stellar bottle!

Nose is great crazy lemon oil some lemon zest with rocky minerals. Palate is so great. Sweet lemons but with the perfect zingy lemony acidity of regular lemons. Finish is the best lemon soda ever. Really lively. Long. What a great wine. The minerality of pfalz. The intensity and concentration of one Germany’s great vineyards. Bought from Fass Selections.
