Napa elegance present in this wine. Bought on release and cellared until the cork was pulled tonight, 9/26/2020. Looking for a structured red wine to put alongside NYT Beef Bourgogne recipe combined with an itch for something in the realm of Napa Cabernet.

Stag’s Leap (SVL particularly) in the 10-20 year window seems to be my sweet spot.
This wine (13.5% abv) and others I’ve drank across this range find a lighter elegance when aligned with heavier foods or on their own.
Very autumnal in this wine’s flavor - fallen leaves, damp earth, savory mushrooms, cranberry, dried cherry & pomegranate

Simply splendiferous! Compared to the Vichon SLD from the same vintage this was polished and bright through and through. Enjoyed over 3.5 hours and savored every bit. Happy bday wife!

Sipping Fine Wine

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, founded in 1970 and celebrating their 40th anniversary and over 4 decades since famous Paris Tasting, this wine is something special. Deep dark Ruby, comple aromas, sweet berry fruits, floral, earth and gritty notes, enticing. Blackberry, wild currants and hints of sweet red fruit flavors, savory undertow adding some licorice and cacao. Fine dusty tannins begging for more time to develop, ending with a great attitude. Excellent!

Served blind alongside what was eventually revealed to be the 2019 Ridge Monte Bello. The 2018 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. is decidedly young and primary. Soft, ripe black and red fruits with cocoa and spices. It’s fairly lavishly oaked but stops short of being annoying. The finish is long and satisfying. While this drinks very well right now, I think it will become a lot more interesting down the road when secondary characteristics come more into play. Drink now through 2040.

Sweet almost liqueur blackberries, dark cherries, secondary layer of strawberries, cola, sweet leather & dry earth, touch of date & figs, sweet spice and a long elegant finish.

This bottle was in a closed and dumb phase, the nose stuck at stinky sock and the powerful core of blackberry fruit and freshly made compote was just a bit too disjointed to enjoy. Hold for 3-4 years minimum.

Super herbaceous. Thyme, soy sauce , lush fruit, fig, Jammy, not a ton of acid and tannin on the 2020. Definitely more savory Vs the FAY which I also love. Big long finish that lingers. 14.8%
