Stag's Leap Wine Cellars
Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2003 | Birthday weekend for my lovely wife.
Green on the nose, is there substantial Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot for the last 25%? Cedar-y cherry notes to the palate, but short finish. Will more air rescue this bottle...?🤞 Double decanted with notes at 5H. (Drink 2005-2007?)
Paired to USDA Prime Strip Steaks (baseball-cut), Allen Bros. Chicago.

Deep ruby with aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and herbs. On the palate of this mostly Cab Sauv with a splash of Cabernet Franc (sometimes they use Merlot), sat on French oak for 18 months, about 30% new, deep Ruby with aromas of berries and rich spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with tobacco spice, toasty oak and floral notes. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice, oak and mineral character, Nice, should age well.

Dark fruit. Oak. Leather.
It’s really big.
Wish I had a better vintage than 17.

At 20 years, this still shows incredible youth. Loads of brambly wild berries and cocoa. Rich body and ripe polished tannins. Iron fist in a velvet glove.

Thank God. Dependable Stags Leap rescues wine #1. Creme de Mint, vanilla, licorice, melded together with nice grippy tannins that aren't bitter and uncomfortable. Solid.

Deep ruby with aromas of dark fruit, sweet spice and herbs. On the palate of this mostly Cab Sauv with a splash of Merlot, sat on French oak for 18 months (about 1/3 new), flavors of rich and juicy cherry and blackberry with savory spice and integrated toasty oak that gives this medium+ length wine a satisfying finish. Artemis should keep well for at least another 5+ years.
