I really want to like these wines more, because I've bought quite a few bottles in the past. Simply put, the oak tends to mar what seems to be great fruit material. Age doesn't seem to help. Most bottlings are about 40% new oak, but even that has undue influence.

#tbt Thinking back to the great days of StI with Mark Vlossak working his magic with hallowed fruit from 7 Springs. These wines are mature now and so gorgeous. Nose of cherry/rhubarb and damp earth. Medium-dark garnet color. Medium body - silky on the tongue. Palate of darkish/wild red fruit including raspberry, plus some loam, sage, and mineral. Was amazing with grilled duck basted in cranberry glaze. Hadn’t tried this cuvée in almost 9 years, and it lived up to its early promise.

Dark red, ripe and deep nose of black raspberry and cherry with vanilla and rich loam, opulant ripe raspberry and fresh strawberry on the palate with lively herbal notes in the lingering finish. Terrifically peaking now. 93
