The 2014 St. Francis “Old Vines” Zinfandel has a beautiful nose, showing lush raspberry, black cherry and spice all over the place. The dark palate provides a boatload of black raspberry and blackberry, with a slightly savory spot sneaking its way through the fruit display. It drinks remarkably easy, considering the alcohol number, but has enough tannins for the swordfish, certainly. I could have gone with the filet and been just fine.

Solid oaky nose. Tastes of raspberry, cherry and hints of blueberry. Finish is with a quality oak (with vanilla) and spice. I will make one comment... This is a fantastic wine, spot on for fruit flair, spice and minimum tannin, but I have to make one comparison. For a cheaper price the exact same characteristics can be found from Brazin Zin.

Black fruit; plums, blackberry, black pepper, vanilla; warmth in the palette; more complex than the disappointing 2012
