Spier
Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc

Pale straw gold. Full nose of tropical fruits and dried grass. Medium-bodied palate echoes the nose adding a bit of underripe fig and that classic SA “oiliness” that you either love or hate (full disclosure: I love it… in the right place). This is a good drink, though I believe there are more solid examples of the SA SB style out there (including Spier’s own “reserve” Vintage Selection). That said, at this price point, one is mostly just looking for a good glass of wine that will compliment appropriate foods. At ten bucks, this is that wine. Drink now.

Tried the 2016 previously and the ‘17 is not any better. Their Private Collection Sauv Blanc at $25 is 100% better! A big box wine store most likely picked this up for pennies on the $$. Shows off fruit aromas with some citrus and herb grassy notes. On the palate tropical fruits, medium acidity on short finish. Pass, better SB's out there in similar price range. Tasting Sample.

Let this puppy breathe foreveeeer. The first night we couldn't finish a glass, recorked and tried the following night - less acidic and softer.

Bold oak and acid flavors, with notes of pear and apple. Aftertaste is a bit fungal. Worked great with roasted chicken but would be an equally great wine to pair with dessert.
