This is not a mind bending powerhouse of a wine. It isn't especially complex or sophisticated, but rather reflects the simplicity of the quaint countryside of Utiel Requena from which it hails. Named after the esparto grass native to the region, this Tempranillo is intricate in other ways: Grown on healthy, pesticide free vines surrounded by swaths of land solely dedicated to natural habitat and biodiversity. Little to no manipulation in the winery (no oak, #nosulfites, #nativeyeasts). And bet you didn't know that Bodegas Iranzo is the oldest estate winery in Spain dating back to the 1300s! So if you have expectations of a wine, this might not be the one for you. But if you appreciate authenticity and want to experience real #terroir, there's no better value on the market in my opinion.

50% Tempranillo and 50% Cab. Could have fooled me, as this is super light. Let me know if you’ve ever had a life-changing Tempranillo. I want to believe one exists, but I sure haven’t tasted one yet. For me, this is about as good as it gets, which is just aight.

Well, on the nose it's promising - but it will let you down. There is just something missing. I don't know if organic wine is the diet soda of the vino world, but this smells like a good red, initially tastes like one but then it slams on the brakes. Not sure why...I'm loathe to pour wine out, but this bottle won't be finished. Serve to your vegan friends (assuming you have at least 1?) to keep them entertained...then go open a real Spanish red and rejoin the evening with a real wine. Note that King Leonidas would not approve of the Spartan derived moniker of this bottle, as it would have been kicked into that bottomless pit...
