Tart cherries and blackberries and touch of VA on the nose. Cracked pepper and cedar smoke on the palate. Really good. Not showing the typical, smoked meat and prophylactic aromas of a #pinotage but perhaps that’s a good thing.

Mar 3rd, 2020Good Pinotage. A total oxymoron, but true.

A little placard next to the wine extols its virtues and you can't help but purchasing. Add in the fact that I'm a big Pinotage/ S. Africa fan and there was no turning back. The alcohol streaks through in the nose (14%) followed by black berries, black plums, a bit of cedar and black pepper, and rounded out with some sweet cooking spice. Following that, though, the palette tends to disappoint. Dark earth and black fruit come and go pretty quick, with a finish of vanilla oak. It's not a bad wine, but for the price ($30) and general lack of Pinotage-y-ness you can do better. I do love the wine label, though, and the winery also makes a conservancy contribution with every bottle sold.

1 person found it helpfulOct 6th, 2018Quite simply the best pinotage I've ever had. Beautiful lighter purple color with notes of wild strawberries, cherries, dried rose petals, and tarry earth. The palate is more of the nose, but with more black pepper and tomato leaf/tobacco leaf. This vintage is one for the ages as far as pinotage is concerned.

Mar 7th, 2016This is a very interesting, nice take on the grape. Definitely can tell it's a cooler-climate pinotage, and is bet the fermentation is cooler, too. Still has that smoky fynbos-y note with plenty of dark cherries and maybe some straight-up Coke.
