Skipstone
Oliver's Blend Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Second wine at Great Falls Wine Outlet this Friday and second Skipstone. Deep garnet red. A little savory on the nose with some earthiness, tobacco, animal nuances, plums, and spices. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and full bodied. A bit bigger than the 2005 but not as integrated. Dark plums on the palate with some floral notes and crushed gravel. Long and lingering finish. Definitely has potential to improve. Drink till 2025. (92+)
Made up of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc. Made by Philippe Melka. Selling for $109.99 at The Great Falls Wine Outlet.

First of the wines at Great Falls Wine Outlet this Friday. Deep garnet red with a little bricking on the edges. A bit dirty on the nose with some earthiness. After a few in the glass it opened up with some black plums as well as some softer black and red fruits. Balanced on the palate with medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Quite fruity on the attack but still dark and some richness. Notes of sweet spices too, especially cinnamon, some aged blue fruits and black cherries. Long and dry finish with solid minerality. Tastes younger than an 05. Drink till 2023.
Made up of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. Made by Philippe Melka. Selling for $119.99 at The Great Falls Wine Outlet. Inaugural Vintage.

Blueberry, pomegranate pith, cherry, vanilla. A little high in alcohol for me the label says 14.5% but it seems closer to 15.2% #cabernet #sonomacounty #healdsburg #FWC #bordeauxblend

Jul 23rd, 2015coffee, cocoa powder, vanilla, dark red cherries, and figs. A complex nose with the body to support it. For a 2010 it is really supple. I look forward to opening others like it.

Oct 11th, 2024Birthday celebration for @Cody Uzzel at Lucio’s with a bunch of friends. All wines (except sparklers) tasted blind.
.
A Melka beauty that served as a nice follow-up to Bénetière’s gem. This had a green streak piercing the palate that dominated at first and was slightly off-putting, but it balanced itself out as the night wore on and proved to be quite harmonious with the other essences of the wine: exotic spices, mud/clay, plums, and créme de cassis. This was an awesome wine.
