Secondary notes of earth & damp cellar from the age. Just about to fall over the hill, but after pouring a second taste, I get some olive & ginger notes. Tasted a few younger Cali Pinots today, but this older gentleman stands out in a great way.

Not surprisingly, the most evolved of tonight’s trio of Siduri “Hirsch” (1997, 2000 & 2001), some underlying Brett (horsey) aromatics, but this also shows some lovely tart red-fruits aromas and flavors, solid Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, time to drink, especially if I’m correct about the Brett in this wine.

Oct 15th, 2025More dark-fruited than the elegant, red-fruited 2001, this is pretty disjointed and tannic, lacking the lively acidity of the 2001, interesting contrast, though admittedly I don’t remember much about the vintage seasons of 2000 vs. 2001 Hirsch vintages, good, but ready to drink.
