David Ramey 2nd label. Alegria Vineyard, restored in 1990 by the people at Acorn. This wine is a field blend of 65 & 125 yr. old head trained blocks. 72% Zinfandel, 11% Alicante Bouchet & 11% Petit Syrah. 14.5% and not hot. The Zin is distinctly fresh and light, the PS big and bold but only on the nose. Only 7 months in all "neutral" barrels but it feels like the oak stands out. Great acid, spice & dark fruit underlies the wood. Will open up the next bottle years from now with ribs and BBQ chicken. 24 hours later the wine was great, 36 hours later, it's clear the oaky'ness is actually the Petit Syrah/Alicanté...

Zinfandel, Aligote, and Petit Syrah. Some fruit on the nose, but herbacious aroma more prevalent. Nice tannins. Oak flavors. Delicious.

When was the last time you had California Zin like this? Not overoaked. Even at 14.5, still not too much alcohol. Ruby red with a floral nose along with blackberry and oak. More dark fruit, spice, earth, coffee, and a smooth freshness on the palate. The Petite Sirah adds some structure and boldness. Great acidity, nice balance, well structured. If you know me, you know I love second labels and this is easily one of the best I've ever had.
