Les Lecons des Maitres Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon

After multiple attempts to add the vintage I will put it in the body of my note, 2019.

Opened last night with my Wine group.
When first opened, I found the wine to be young and dominated by Sauvignon Blanc characteristics. One of the reasons we bring more bottles than necessary. ( 5 people 13 bottles) it’s so we have wine left over to bring home and taste the next day. I wanted something light for dinner tonight. I decided to.pair the wine with pastrami smoked salmon. The most noticeable change was the semillon starting to exert itself. The honey wax flavors provided lovely roundness to the herbal and citrus flavors of the Sauvignon Blanc. Many years of life ahead.

Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee. Incredible hosting by Joe. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine, all tasted blind.

Bonus wines. I’ve heard of this and was happy to try. Bibiana from Wayfarer and Jeff Pisoni joint project. Bigger style SB, definitely done in the Bordeaux style. Good amount of semillon to round the edges out. High acidity. Lemon and lime tart, lychee, limestone and saline notes. Oak isn’t as powerful as Aesthete or other notable bigger style Cali SBs, but it’s certainly as flavor packed. Wish I could enjoy one of these stand alone to see how it evolves.

So much depth to this. A serious, utterly captivating wine.

Can't wait to try this in 8-10 years. 100% new oak Ritchie vineyard. True Cali bdx-blanc.

Not impressed

A shadow of its 2012 self. Hoping it will reveal more in due time.

Sauvignon Blanc so serious I'm going to out my other bottles away for a few years. Much too young now.
