Darkly floral, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino opens with a blend of grilled herbs, exotic spices and steeped plums. It's a racy and fruit-forward effort with masses of ripe red and blue fruits swirling across a lively acidity stream. This tapers off with medium length and gently tannic, leaving a lovely resonance of inner rose. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2024)

The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino tempts the senses with a perfumed mix of wild strawberries, plums, lavender and sage. This is a pure yet potent effort, with depths of mineral-laced red fruits carried across silken textural waves. The 2020 leaves notes of hard candies, licorice and pretty rosy florals while finishing with just a hint of grippy tannins that frame the wine well. For all of its finesse, there's an underlying power here that will carry this for many years to come. (Eric Guido, Vinous, October 2022)

Traditional style. Well balanced, but all in all didn’t really sing

Don't think of Rossi di Montalcino as inferior to Brunello, Elisa Sesti told me, but as a younger wine that "heralds the new vintage." It's a wonderful way of thinking of this young, fresh, fruity, but complex and layered wine.

Pretty shy tonight, maybe too you as the fruit was the entire show, structure was on the soft side. Expected more structure and terroir driven wine...had the 2010 Rosso last year and it was excellent...going to wait on the other bottles.

Actual Brunello, looks, smells and finishes like a Brunello. Traditional, terroir & varietal driven. #FWC

Solid Rosso di Montalcino. Earthy and tannic. Rustic in the best sense of the word.
