Nose was tired, but the palate was dense and integrated. The tannins still could use some time. Serious wine.

Stunningly sexy nose of ganache and maraschino cherry. Plush and velvety with a core of dark chocolate and red berry compote in a totally resolved mix laden with secondary notes that were just singing. Peaking.

July 4th Friday was a total blowout! Killer bottles one after another. Here are just a few of the bottles we all enjoyed!

On a table next to an ‘08 To-Kalon and ‘11 Old Sparky, the highlight here was the amount of sweet ripe fruit that seemed crazy light and nimble. Rich mixed berry pie, nutmeg, espresso and sandalwood on the nose with more dark fruit and dark chocolate on the palate. Very energetic.

An extracted, plush wine with a delicious core of crimson fruit, a dash of herb roasted meat and chocolate lava cake. The perfect companion to good company and NY strip. Phenomenal but just slightly less compelling than the ‘08 I had in November.

Part 1 of the final and main event for the Fall WNH. The most spectacular lineup of wines I’ve ever seen, and an overall wonderful ending to an amazing trip with fantastic people.

This was in the running for WOTN with a few others (in my opinion). My first Schrader, actually. I haven’t had many of TRB’s wines with 10yrs of age, so I was surprised at the flavor profile including equal amounts of red, blue and black fruit. Absolutely gorgeous bouquet of sandalwood too. Almost at a perfectly integrated drinking window. Fig, roasted plum, and some dark mocha. I’ll let
@Bill Bender provide better commentary as he brought this at our begging! Thanks a ton, Bill.

Tasted blind. Explosive fruit and extreme sumptuousness. Quite irresistible. It's a massive wine but slight sense that it's on the brink of a decline. Drink it up and enjoy the hedonism now.

Blueberry jam, blackberry jam, mocha, espresso, Christmas spices. Sort of amazing but also much too much of everything. Super dense. Maybe one adds water? Joke. Sort of.

Even in the hedonistic Dionysian wine orgy that was @Eric LaMasters living room on a rainy Saturday in West Des Moines this T6 from @Shawn R shined bright and cut through the crowd. Very full bodied with velvety espresso covered purple fruit. Showing some tertiary flavors now—spice box, smoked meat with tasty herbs. Just so damn voluptuous. Drank side by side with Scarecrow at a quieter moment and it was a clear winner for me. TRB being TRB.
