Typically, I don't find VA or oxidation to be distracting in the Scholium wines - the opposite, actually - but I'm finding this so high toned and mushroom dominated today w/o the evanescent ethereal quality that perches The Sylphs so high on my to do list. Bumsville.

Down toned on the nose, due to long elévage, no topping up, nor sulphur. Explosive and interesting on the palate where lemon peel and chalk take centre stage aided by great acidity for length and persistence.

A wine of contradictions. Or is that complexity? The oxidized character of the nose was initially distracting and off putting. But then the layers kicked in and revealed themselves. And the palate... yum.
