Zotovich Vineyard Syrah

Lovely Rhône style Syrah with great grip and spice. barely midlife

2019 vintage. Tasted with the winemaker, Matt. Trampolines between dirty and pretty without any guardrails, affectations or boundaries. Light-medium body. 4.10.24.

I was hoping to experience the same style of Syrah from this label that I enjoyed a decade ago, full of flowers and blueberry notes. Instead, this bottle was a peppery and brambly version. Still tasty but not as terrific as I remembered. It did open up nicely after half an hour of decanting, and a sniff of the decanter provided a faint bacon aroma as sometimes happens with Rhone reds. This wine (2018 vintage) was a good match with my braised beef cheeks at the Black Sheep restaurant in Santa Barbara.

Very nice and quite complex. Nice bell pepper and dark fruit. Not at all jammy. Med + tannins. Almost Cabernet-like.

Mighty good, fun, clean, meaty, smooth, balanced and just plain enjoyable. Zotovich has great white grapes and this sarah adds to my appreciation. Very well expressed by Samsara.

Vegetal and peppery. Very interesting for a syrah. Tastes more like a cab franc
