Taurasi DOCG 2006, 15.5%. 2006 could use few more years if refinement, as the nose is still young and fresh. In the mouth the acidity is still too strong, and the tannins too intense. 87/100

2021 winter. A big wine, and frankly 15.5% is usually enough to give me pause. However, this doesn’t really fee out of balance - the structure of aglianico does its thing. I don’t get the raisiny notes or residual sweetness that put me off of recent bottles of Bea’s Pagliaro, another pinnacle example of a great regional variety that I loved for a long time.

Big wine, lots of earth, tar, leather, pipe tobacco and balsamic and spice, and lots of blackberry. Such a full and potent wine. I wanted to drink the aromas. Roses and other flowers. A real romp in the forest. It was ready to come home.
