In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make Italian wines from the heart of Tuscany. Medium Ruby red color with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice, blend of 80% Sangiovese with rest Merlot and Cab Sauv. On the palate flavors of black cherry and plum with tobacco, pepper and earthy cedar notes. Full-bodied, well balanced soft drying tannins on a smooth medium+ finish. Grab some Italian food and enjoy the great value wine. Consistent quality, a Fav!!

2020 opened 2024. Meh. This is a decent table wine, but it’s not very interesting. Leather and pomegranate on the nose. A hint of red fruit on the front. Light tannic structure. Mineral high notes that are suggestive of volcanic soils (but I’m pretty sure the grapes weren’t grown in volcanic soils). That’s a plus for me, but there isn’t much else in this wine that interests me. Short finish.

Haven’t had much from Ruffino. Not bad at all, but definitely was hoping for a bit more fruit expression and some better acid on the finish. A bit dusty.

Blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot. Dark ruby (opaque) color. Aromas and flavors of red cherry, bramble berries and plums, with hints of tobacco, violets, baking spices, roasted nuts and white pepper. Touch of minerality and light oak on the medium-long finish. Soft and gentle tannins and reasonably bright acidity.
