Rudius
Russian River Valley Syrah
Stellar. Huge surprise. Jammy nose, with fig paste. Lovely texture and balance on the palette. Notes of honey, coffee and hints of tobacco. This still has runway.

Dec 2nd, 2017Ripe, rich, almost “jammy”. Dark, inky, old school RRV Syrah. Listed at 15.7 ABV, and tasting just a touch “hot”. Black fruit, a bit of spice, black pepper, long unctuous almost oily. Not my style these days, but almost textbook “Parkerized”.

Jun 22nd, 2020In stark contrast to the Shirvington, this is wonderful. If there were a wine dictionary example for olive tapenade, this would be it. A lovely balance of fruit and savory. No heat despite the 16% abv. Thanks to @Ron R for introducing me to Rudius!

May 19th, 2017Last of 14 bottles purchased from multiple sources over 7 years, with three from the library release a few years back. Always a favorite, although the early bacon fat signature has dissipated over the years. Still a nice Syrah nose of roasted meat and dark fruit, but finish was a bit thin on this auction bottle. Forgot this was 16.5% ABV, but not throwing off any noticeable heat.

Jun 5th, 2016According to CellarTracker, this is my "most consumed" bottle. There's a reason why - it always delivers. Great price, great value, great profile.
