Rôtie Cellars
Northern Blend Walla Walla Valley Syrah Viognier
Aromas of sweet fruit and earthy notes lifted by the floral Viognier. This needed thirty minutes to blossom. Dusty tannins carry ripe plum, cherry, blueberry fruits. The Rocks Syrah gives a pleasant weightiness, but I do wish it had some of that Rocks funk.

Sep 29th, 2018Sean Boyd wanted to pay respect to the wines he truly loves to drink, those of France's Rhone Valley. So he set a goal to start a winery based entirely on making traditional Rhone-style blends in Washington State. Deep Ruby with sweet red fruit aromas and citrus floral scents. On the palate black berry fruits with raisins and smoky almond flavors, some cacao and earthy notes. Full fine dusty tannins noted on a lingering finish. Well done. Tasting Sample.

Always solid, the Rôtie's Northern Blend is composed of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, adding subtle sweetness to a nose is fairly brimming over with ripe Rainier cherries, Italian plums, and baking spices. The fruit is sourced from the Rocks AVA, just south of Walla Walla Valley, a site that tends to contribute earthy undertones and, even a bit of funk, all of which can be found in this bottle, though not as pronounced as some other examples from this unique and very singular appellation. Bravo!

Aug 23rd, 2016Magnificent Syrah from Washington. Really balanced reminding me of a young cornas from a mild vintage. Well integrated oak and fruit this one will reward you if you can wait.
